Congratulations to Hua Wei Chan for his second Canadian mental math champion title!
The 2022 National Mental Math Championship was held Saturday November 26 in Montreal.

- Congratulations to 18-year-old Mohammad El Mir for his close second place and for his outstanding overall performance!
- Congratulations to 2018 champion Jean Béland for his third place overall and for establishing a new national record at the squaring challenge!
Thanks to everyone who participated. And thanks to Rosaly Perrault and thanks to the AÉBBIUM (Association de biochimie et bio-informatique de l’Université de Montréal) for their help.

Participants appear in last name alphabetical order. The best result for each discipline is highlighted in bold.
With the exception of the calendar calculations optional event, every challenge is done within a 5 minutes time. And since all participants signed up for the Advanced section this year, all calculations were done completely mentally. Participants were only allowed to write down the final result of each problem.

(Mohammad El Mir also did an unofficial calendar calculation 1-minute attempt and got a very impressive result, not that far behind Jean Béland.)

P.-S.
* While there were only 4 participants, it’s worth noting that the average skill level has never been that high. First place Hua Wei Chan got second place at the Mental Calculation World Cup in Germany back in 2013. Second place Mohammad El Mir got third place at the same event this year. Third place Jean Béland was the Canadian Mental Math champion back in 2018. And finally, fourth place Tom Awad came in first place at the last championship organized by l’Association Québécoise des Jeux Mathématiques.
* We’re sorry for the 16 international participants who were originally planning to travel here for this event and who couldn’t get a visa in time. They will of course be welcome next year if they can and choose to do so. In the meantime, we hope they will participate in our upcoming online Honorary Mental Math Challenge!
